HiAP Experience

Thailand has a long history on health system reform: Health System Reform Office in 2000; Health Promotion Fund in 2001; Universal Health Coverage in 2002; National Health Act in 2007. Promoting HiAP approach has been embedded as a way of working, but needs to be improved. Key drivers for HiAP in Thailand have been: engagement of active citizens; redefining health as well-being enabled easier addressing of social determinants of health; governance mechanism; and political commitment to multisectoral action.

Formal mechanisms for governance and implementation are in place since 2007. National Health Commission is chaired by Prime Minister. Health Assembly and Health Impact Assessment are specified in the Act.
